Snow may have melted, but Miku is here to stay. ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ ❄
Yet another bag I made being holed up during the winter. ¯\_༼ ಥ ‿ ಥ ༽_/¯ What do you do being stuck inside for winter? Might as well make an ita bag right? ｜*￣∇￣｜
The Miku Hatsune decorated Affectuator ita backpack is a convention booth favorite! ♥ It's bright, cluttered, and its symmetrical aesthetic draws the eye. I decorated and posted this one over Christmas break, but it’s finally time to give you all the juicy deets! It’s Sonya here with another Inspiration Station!
First, as always, I start by lining up my merch, base bag, insert, fabric, and basically what I need for making an ita bag. I chose to decorate a light blue Affectuator starter kit instead of the mint for Miku because the light blue wouldn't blend as much with the Miku merch I have. As you may know, Miku can be more blue or teal depending on her costume!
I found this really awesome angular patterned fabric at my local Joanns! I looked so hard for this fabric and it just fit so perfectly. Bless. ∠( ᐛ 」∠)＿ The fabric has been wrapped around the insert using the backing that came with the kit. Time to start setting up the chain work. I had a test layout done, just forgot to take a photo of it. （；^ω^）
I love the Affectuator. It’s so sturdy. But there is a problem! Σ(T□T) It’s such a tall window with only two loops for hanging at the top. SWEAT NOT! No way will I let this stop me. This can be worked around with some advanced chain work and grapevining! We’ll be posting blogs on those techniques soon!
I used the XS sized light blue color clasp chain that came with the kit along with a dark purple S sized hoop chain. Hanging them off of each other let me get some extra vertical space. The hoops on the hoop chain really help with hanging straps and such because usually the loops on the bags are too thick. ಠ╭╮ಠ
It may be hard to see, but I took a couple clasp adapters apart and attached the jump rings to the loops on the bag. This lets me stick some racing Mikus up higher to cover up some of that empty space. It was the best place for these Mikus because of all that hair.
'Aight fam. Half of the bag is now put together! I added another hoop chain hidden behind the racing Miku. खิ৺खิ✧ Clever, I do say so myself. I mean, I am trying my best to get everything hung on chains instead of using a ton of safety pins. You have to be a but more calculating with chains but I find it easier than pinning them on individually. Remember, hiding ways of how you hang or pin stuff to an ita bag means you have ascended to the next level of being an ita bagger! (｀ω´)
I also decided to add a couple of snow Miku can badges at the very top since where there is empty space, it is a prime spot to be covered with merch! And of course they are covered too because I'm paranoid about them getting scratched even inside the vinyl window. _/￣|(冫、)-c
HUFFS. (´皿｀;) Unwrapping all of these was such a workout...and now!?!?!? UGH. Look at all these ball chain thingies. ノಠ_ಠノ I hate these things. They are just too bulky to be useful in ita bags. Sighs. Time to do some magic with clasp adapters! Now I can hang hang my straps any way I like. Hehe. (ᇴ‿ฺᇴ)
Grapevining, anyone? The sides of my ita bag's layout is rather empty and I need to make these hang vertically somehow.╭( ･ㅂ･)و Using brown colored safety pins to blend in with the rubber used for the snow Miku rubber straps, I was able to grapevine them together with just the right amount of spacing. You can’t even see those pins! Try different methods of attachment and see how the spacing works out for you. ( ﾟ▽ﾟ)/
After a few more chains hidden behind the bottom rows of Mikus, the second half is done! You can see where I used the grapevined pieces of snow Mikus on the side to fill in the gaps on the side. I believe they really worked out well. (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و
Did you notice from before the lone unwrapped snow Miku at the bottom of the bag on the table when it was half-decorated? Well look at her now! She the centerpiece of the bag!!! It felt a little empty in the middle and she was an extra. She fit perfectly there. Sometimes extra merch can come in handy. _(┐「ε:)_❤
Don’t be like me! Plan your decorations and be firm with your decisions! I did say I did a test layout. I felt a little lazy and decided I didn't wanna do lights in the middle of making this bag. After I did all the decorations, it felt like something was missing. And yep, you guessed it. Deco Lights! Curse me.
Time to make a bigger mess than before... ◔̯◔
I had to invert the chainwork and grapevining to get the insert out in order to install the Deco Lights. This is the future I have chosen.
//pans out as I look at the destruction I created with my own two hands
I've been asked how to keep the Deco Lights in place. The lights can be bent to whatever shape you want along with lacing it through safety pins or your can badges/buttons you have on your bag. You can see I bent some pear-shaped safety pins over the edge of the insert to catch the Deco Lights on the edge of the inserts.
Is there a specific way to lace Deco Lights on bags? Not really. Just do it to your heart's desire. It may look a little crazy like this though. Results may vary. 乁༼☯‿☯✿༽ㄏ
Now light 'em up, up, UP!
Pro Tip: Be sure to have your light switches easily accessible! I made sure to have them at the very top where the zippers will usually meet on the window pocket. I can turn them on in a snap of a finger! (ฅ`ω´ฅ)
D̶e̶c̶o̶r̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶s̶ ̶c̶o̶m̶p̶l̶e̶t̶e̶!̶ I'm afraid not. One last touch before this ita bag is done. (⌐▨_▨)
I have here some sweet Rose Lights. These are mint colored but will light up green! Sweet ain't it? (*^-ﾟ)b
I start off with taping the battery case shut just in case it somehow gets open. I am trying to go for a pom pom shape so I can attach it to the outside of the ita bag as a decoration. I've done this before with the Kacchako Affectuator with a smaller variant of these lights. I use tape to hold down the wires position as I wrap the flowers around the battery case. When finished, it'll look something like this. (◕‿◕✿)
YAAAS!!! §ԾᴗԾ§ MY GREATEST GRAPEVINING CREATION YET. I'm super happy with how this all came out even with the mishaps I encountered. I hope this has inspired you to do some grapevining. It can be so satisfying getting everything lined up perfectly. (ﾉ≧ڡ≦)
Oh oh oh! I almost forgot to show you the the best part. Wanna see something sweet?
